Soccer is our Passion. Scoring is our goal!
The Soccer Shottarget was designed by Luke Melin. Luke realized how important consistent finishing is. The difference between winning and losing is often a single goal. A missed opportunity can be devastating. Luke set out to design a simple, durable training aid that can be used consistently in dynamic training scenarios. It is easily transported and clearly accomplishes it's goal: bringing more shots on target. Soccer Shottarget was developed to promote effective shot placement training - individually, with small groups, or within full team practices.
What is the Purpose of Shottarget?
Goal Post Awareness
The beauty of Shottarget is that it teaches the player's mind to intuitively aim for the edges of the goal....
Why aim at the posts?
- Focus on the target zones not the goal keeper
- Goal keepers will cover the largest angle of exposure and they are very good with their hands. There will be vulnerable shot target zones on either side of the keeper especially low.
- Most shots scored from within the box are one touch
- There is little or no time to analyze. Muscle memory must look to the target zones. Too often the shooter looks to see where the goal keeper and shoots right at them
- Knowing where the goal posts are and shooting just inside makes the most sense.
- Shooting along either goal post (shot target zones) is the most difficult to defend, and therefore the most effective shot target.
Near Miss Reality
Near miss reality is the idea that even if you barely miss your intended target you are likely to still be successful. You will also be more successful the better choice of target you make. Shottarget emphasizes the power of Near Miss Reality by separating the goal post target areas into three sections. As you aim towards the lower sections you increase your chance of scoring by about 20%.
How to increase your scoring chances
- Improve accuracy
- A shot, not on goal, has O% chance of scoring
- Statistical Probability
- The reality is that not all shots will hit the intended target resulting in many near misses. It is possible to determine probabilities of a shot being on goal.
